I believe in giving back, and each of my children’s books supports a different charity.  I donate 10% of sales (not proceeds, but sales) to help support those who need a little extra love from time to time. For me, giving back means more than a quick financial donation.

Giving back means being involved in a community, and with organizations, to foster understanding, compassion and offer advice for those who are unsure about their next steps. The most important element is listening, so others feel heard.  And in listening, I learn about the true essence of a person, to share the real story.

Here are a few ways I nurture community relationships.

• Speaking at support groups

• Author visits to classrooms and libraries

• Read Across America events

• Supporting PTO/PTA fundraisers

• Working with Reading is Fundamental literacy organization

• Book readings

• Writing articles for magazines and newspapers

• Writing articles for local and national blogs and mom groups

• Writing fun, meaningful books that inspire learning and curiosity in children, and prompt family conversations
